Relaxed touring along three scenic rivers
Taking in three of Germanys rivers, with short driving distances between stops, this tour is a relaxed affair taking in some wonderful scenery; with many of the campsites being on the banks of the rivers.
We start at historic Trier on the river Moselle, from where we follow the river to Bernkastel-Kues. Also nestling on the banks of the Moselle River, Bernkastel-Kaus is a picturesque wine growing region. This is the best time of year to be in the area, as taking place during our stay is the wine festival. The streets of Bernkastel-Kues come alive with market stalls, regional wine sellers, street entertainment and fireworks.
Our next stop is Cochem, another scenic part of the Moselle. After 3 stops on the Moselle, we switch rivers to the Lahn as we have time in medieval Limburg an der Lahn, where our campsite again overlooks the river.
Our third river, the Rhine, we reach as we move south to Speyer. As well as being on the river, Speyer houses the ‘Technik Museum’ complex, a wonderful collection of all things linked to transport. Staying with the Rhine, we then travel to our final location at Rüdesheim am Rhine, an attractive town laying in the rivers gorge and renowned for its wonderful views. The narrow-cobbled lanes of the Old Town lined with wine taverns and gardens are certainly not to be missed and is where we have our ‘Farewell Dinner’.
